The “impatient alchemist” is a man who, in pursuit of gold, loses himself and sells his soul to the devil. This is exactly what the quiet and inconspicuous Trinidad Soler turned out to be: a nuclear power plant engineer, a respectable family man, a loving father and husband, found dead in a suburban motel. Lorenzo Silva masterfully twists the intrigue, gives the main character, among other advantages, a sense of humor, creates a whole gallery of vivid portraits, and touches on many diverse problems of modern Spain in the novel (from the disposal of nuclear waste and the use of atomic energy to immigration from Eastern Europe). Bright and lively characters, a light and ironic narrative style, generously flavored with Spanish flavor, and a bold, non-trivial plot do not allow the reader to get bored and keep them in suspense until the very end.
