The cardboard sword battles between the “light” knights from the Order of the Strugatsky brothers and the “dark” knights from the Young Guard camp have long since died down. Now only veterans remember them, cherishing decorative scars as evidence of their personal involvement in those heroic times. Who won those battles? Of course, fiction won, real, talented, living, no matter what country its creators belonged to. The books of Evgeny Gulyakovsky are firmly on the shelf of Russian science fiction classics. Already his first novel, “Season of Fogs,” broke a hole in the genre fabric, becoming perhaps the very first exemplary space action movie in the literature of the Land of the Soviets. Then, with each new work, the author’s talent became more and more established, as evidenced by such important awards as “Aelita” (1998) and the Ivan Efremov Literary Prize (2004), both “for outstanding contribution to the development of Russian fiction.” In the book , in addition to the novel that gave the collection its title, included the novel “Long Sunrise on Enna” and three stories – “Planet for Contact”, “Forbidden Zone” and “The Rustle of the Surf”.
