At the origins of many large museum collections there is often a single person, whose enthusiasm and passion for collecting over time outgrow personal interests and become public property. The Frenchman Emile Guimet can rightfully be considered such a passionate collector. His own museum, created by him in 1889 on the basis of his personal collection, then grew into one of the best collections of Oriental art in the world, which is why today it continues to bear his name.
