It’s an amazing thing: with all the diversity and abundance of novels describing different game realities, the world of Castle Wolfenstein is still depicted only in comics. The book "Wolfenstein. Depths" can be attributed to such pioneers very conditionally. Firstly, Daniel Waters turns to games of the latest wave, modeling an alternative history, leaving the events of 1943 behind. And secondly, this work is more graphic than literary. But, having once set a high bar, both the arcade and the mystical shooter with all the subsequent sequels and threequels never once descended into banality. Everyone knows and remembers this game! The authors of “Veltanshaung” also do not stoop to step-by-step descriptions of completing levels. And, it seems, the main character runs forward, leaving mountains of corpses behind him, but in familiar locations, something alive and real appears. Unexpected heroes and artifacts burst into the familiar surroundings of the black stronghold, and modern musical leitmotifs of Russian rock are intertwined.
