The tragic events on K-219 occurred at a time when the Cold War was already at its end. Much of this story is still shrouded in mystery. The US Navy does not disclose information about operations in which American submarines took part. Ironically, it is much easier to get information from the Russians. The events described in this book clearly reflect this difference. The actions, conversations and even thoughts of the K-219 crew members are conveyed on the basis of their testimony or taken from the logbook entries. The actions of the American submarines that took part in the fate of the K-219, and the events that took place on board, were reconstructed based on the observations of Russian sailors , reports from the American side, conversations with many officers and experts of the US Navy and the rich personal experience of the authors. Dialogues and commands given in the book may differ from the words actually spoken. As in every serious investigation, the authors had to reconstruct the events, collecting data from various sources. Sometimes these data differ in details. Nevertheless, all the basic facts presented in the book are true.
