Marguerite Duras (real name - Marguerite Donadier, 1914-1996) is a French writer, playwright and film director - for almost half a century she has been one of the most popular and read not only in France, but throughout the world. The main theme of her work is rebellion against the colorlessness of everyday life. “The colors of the East and the problems of the West, the intensity of emotions and the cold of loneliness - these are the poles that create tension in her prose.” Duras's most famous works are the script for the classic film by A. Rene "Hiroshima, my love" and the novel "The Lover" - the pinnacle of her work, for which the writer was awarded the Goncourt Prize. In the novel “The Vice-Consul” the reader is presented with an island of Western civilization in an eastern interior - foreign diplomats, luxurious receptions, evening dresses... a charming woman and the vice-consul of the embassy, suffering from hopeless love for her.
