Semyon Rataysky, a sculptor and artist from St. Petersburg, inexplicably falls into the past, to 1522 BC. e. Rataysky is 35 years old, he is an intelligent and physically strong man, skilled in many arts: sculptor, stonecutter, woodcarver, blacksmith, foundry worker. Outwardly, he somewhat resembles the deceased brother Senmut; this similarity, the consonance of names (Semyon - Senmen), as well as the dramatic circumstances of the meeting (Rataysky saves the Egyptians from an attack by robbers), force Senmut to recognize Semyon as his brother, who miraculously returned from the Land of the Dead. In the future, Semyon is for everyone the brother of Senmut, who arrived home after a long journey. Only one person, the wise priest Ineni, who will become Semyon's friend, is initiated into his secret. In Egypt, Rataysky finds home, love and a new homeland. He is a participant and sometimes the driving force behind great events: a military coup, the accession of Hatshepsut to the throne, the struggle against the ambitions of priests and generals, grandiose construction and long-distance expeditions. He becomes a royal sculptor, politician and military leader, completely getting used to the image of Senmen, he is happy in this incarnation, and only one mystery haunts him: how he got into these ancient times. But Semyon is not destined to find out about this.
