The novels from the “Sons of the Great Bear” series by Liselotte Wellskopf-Heinrich are on a par with the adventure books about the Indians of North America by Fenimore Cooper and Mine Reed. The works of the German writer became classics of youth literature, were republished many times, translated into dozens of languages and filmed. The cycle began with the novel of the same name, which was published in 1951, and its author was awarded a prestigious literary prize. In subsequent years, Welskopf-Heinrich did not stop working on the book and significantly expanded it. The first complete edition was published in three volumes in the early 1960s (later the cycle was also published in six volumes). For her active support of the North American Indians, the Oglala tribal union awarded the writer the honorary title of Lakota-Tashina - Defender of the Lakota. Readers are invited to the final volume of the trilogy - “Tokei Ito”, in the center of which is the fate and exploits of the young leader of the Sons of the Great Bear and the life of the Indians, full of dramatic collisions, against the backdrop of their courageous struggle for their ancestral lands and freedom. The novel is presented in a new, complete translation by Vera Akhtyrskaya (previously, “Sons of the Big Dipper” was published in Russian in an abbreviated form); the book also includes beautiful illustrations by Pavel Paramonov.
