The historical and geographical monograph “A Millennium Around the Caspian Sea” is based on the definitions of ethnology published in the treatise “Ethnogenesis and the Biosphere of the Earth” (L., from Leningrad University, 1989). This will no longer be a continuation of the concept outlined, but an ethnological study of the ecumene of Eurasia for 1500 years from the 3rd century. BC e. to the 12th century n. e., in which the fate of the Khazar Khaganate is a piece of a mosaic panel. The choice of plot was prompted by the opportunity to survey from one point the history of the ecumene and the ethnogenesis of the ancient ethnic groups of the Great Steppe in the era when ethnic processes were begun and completed, after which renewal began - a new, not yet completed round of ethnogenesis.
The most representative turned out to be the history of the Huns and Huns, ancient Turks and Uyghurs, Oguzes and Kimaks, which is not sufficiently covered in World History and paleogeography of the historical era. The surrounding regions: China, the Middle East, Byzantium and Europe are like a frame framing the picture - the Turkic-Mongolian steppe.
The monograph is an experience in the synthesis of history, ethnology and geography. It was created at the intersection of the humanities and natural sciences.
