A talent for foreign languages and sophisticated acting for the time being allowed Barracuda to emerge unscathed from all sorts of troubles and elude the police, but when it came to love intertwined with hatred, she found herself defenseless. In an effort to hide from the police, she pretends to be deaf and dumb and becomes a servant to a strange lady who leads a double life: her seclusion is interspersed with going out and walking through Parisian brothels.
And on the other side of the world, a young American is desperately trying to find his mother which he has never seen. The search, which over the years has turned into an obsession, leads him to Europe. One fine day, Barracuda encounters Ether and realizes that he holds all the keys to the puzzle in his hands. And a real hunt is opened for the girl.
Vienna, Paris, America. Barracuda changes countries, identities and languages in the hope of hiding from his pursuers and, in the end, ends up in his native Poland, where the denouement comes. A corpse discovered at the gate of a Warsaw dacha accelerates events, and Barracuda is again forced to use her acting talents.
