"Description of Moldova" by D. K. Cantemir (1673–1723), a writer, scientist and educator, former ruler of Moldova, associate and adviser of Peter the Great, remains one of the most important sources on the history of the Danube principalities. The publication was prepared on the basis of the most complete Latin version of Kantemirov’s “Description of Moldavia” - the so-called Sturdzovsky list (c. 1762–1764, stored in the manuscript and rare book department of the Odessa State Scientific Library named after A. M. Gorky). It takes into account the scribal lists of 1716 (with corrections and marginalia by D.K. Kantemir) and 1727, stored in the archives of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg).
