The novel “The Cursed Gold of Kolyma” tells about the fate of the talented Russian engineer and scientist Evgeniy Ivanovich Bogdanov. As a fifth-year student at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, he was arrested on the denunciation of a close friend and, after a short trial, was sentenced to five years in the camps. The hero found the strength not only to survive in the monstrous conditions of Kolyma, but also to graduate from college, defend his candidate and doctoral dissertations, and become a professor and corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The novel is based on real events, the names of some of the characters have been changed. The second part of the book contains stories of searches and discoveries of little-known materials from the period of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–1905.
