Prose writer Yuri Slezkine (1885–1947) is remembered today mainly as one of the friends and foes of M. A. Bulgakov, but in the 1910-1920s. he was a very popular and even famous fiction writer. A special place in his legacy is occupied by the adventurous hoax novel “Who Laughs Last” (1925), created under the name of the fictitious French author “Georges Delarma” (a literal translation of the writer’s first and last name into French) - a story about an ingenious scam against a satirical background depicted bourgeois France.
