The authors of the book are Yakov Verkhovsky and Valentina Tyrmos, native Odessa residents now living in Israel. As children, they experienced all the horrors of the Romanian occupation of Odessa during the Second World War and only miraculously survived. Throughout their adult lives, they collected evidence of the extermination of the Jews of Odessa (including their families), searched for rare documents in the archives - Romanian, German , Soviet - and conducted their own independent investigation. “The City of Antonescu” is the main book of their lives, because the story of two Jewish families is, by and large, the tragic, terrible story of all the Jews of Odessa. The genre of this work is not so easy to define. Memoirs? Historical research? Analytics?.. When all this is enclosed in one artistic form blazing with emotions, the result is such an unusual book. Because of the terrible facts presented in it, it is very difficult to read, but even more difficult to put down.
