“The City of Antonescu” is the main book of the authors’ lives, because the story of two Jewish families is, by and large, the tragic, terrible story of all the Jews of Odessa. The chronological presentation of events is interrupted by naive, sometimes funny stories from children. They spent more than 900 days and nights in the “City of Antonescu,” at the epicenter of the Horror, under constant fear of death. To be a Jew in Odessa back then meant one thing – death. It could appear in any guise - in the form of an execution, in the form of hunger, in the form of an enemy soldier, or in the form of a janitor who had previously taken off his hat in front of you, or in the form of a former neighbor who shared a communal apartment with you... But there was also salvation - from completely people who had never met before, who risked not only their lives, but also the lives of their children...
