1942 During the first year of the war, Yakov Fomich lost both sons and his wife who died of grief. The meaning of a lonely old man’s life becomes “Limonka,” an incredibly fleet-footed mare, whom he constantly takes care of, preventing him from being ruined by back-breaking collective farm work. But a new danger arises, a gang of deserters hiding in the surrounding forests.
