The battle of July 28, 1904 is one of the little-studied and interesting battles of steam armored squadrons. The Battle of the Yellow Sea (Japanese name for the battle of July 28, 1904) was the first large-scale encounter between two opposing fleets in the war between Russia and Japan in 1904–05. This battle was decisive in the fate of the Russian 1st squadron of the Pacific Fleet. The battle of July 28, 1904 brought new combat experience for the 20th century in planning, conducting naval operations in the era of armor and steam, and managing diverse fleet forces; combat use of rifled breech-loading artillery with smokeless powder and torpedo weapons. Analysis and generalization of combat damage largely allows us to have an idea of the nature of the impact of Russian and Japanese naval artillery - the main weapons of the parties.
