The book examines one of the most interesting periods in the history of world cinema from an unexpected point of view - the interpretation of universal artistic metaphors. For the first time, these categories are examined in the light of film studies using the material of different national cinematographs. In both Russian and French cinema of the 1960s, the world of the hero and the world of the author (sometimes lyrically identified with the hero) are often built in the space “house” - “city”. The author explores the artistic consciousness of dissimilar filmmakers, such as Khutsiev and Tarkovsky, Kalik and Ioseliani, Tati and Truffaut, Ivens and the directors of the “new wave”. The book shows that Russian cinema - for all its originality - was an important part of world cinematic and artistic development.
