The amazing book by Nikolai Albertovich Kuhn “What the Greeks and Romans Told About Their Gods and Heroes” was first published in 1914, almost 100 years ago. The author intended his work, as he wrote in the preface, “mainly for female students and senior students of secondary schools, as well as for all those who are interested in the mythology of the Greeks and Romans,” but the readership turned out to be much wider, and the book immediately became literary classics. According to it, our compatriots suddenly discovered the world of ancient legends and beliefs about deities, monsters and heroes who allegedly lived in ancient times in Greece and the adjacent countries of the Aegean Sea basin.
