This book is not a biography of Alexander the Great, an emperor famous for his conquests and the empire he founded. We have tried to present the most striking aspects of a historical phenomenon that cannot be reduced only to his personality, no matter how large-scale it may be. Thus, the book is devoted to the analysis of important questions that arise in connection with this amazing personality: the origins of Alexander’s reign and his goals, the nature and significance of the resistance that he had to overcome, the organization of life in the conquered territories, the relationship between the victors and the vanquished peoples.
