When Moses is knocked down by a big black-haired man at the gates of the lyceum one morning, he has no idea that he has met the friend he so needed. After all, it is he – a new classmate, the Indian Ratso – who helps Moses rediscover the meaning of life. Why again? Yes, because a 16-year-old teenager is devastated and crushed after a car accident that cripples his leg. A crutch, lameness, problem skin, quarrels in the family - all this plunges Moses into hopeless despair. But, having talked with Ratso, he understands that he also has his own reasons for anger and sadness. And while Moses is trying to figure them out, the Indian unexpectedly invites him to go together to his sister’s birthday, to his homeland, to the Pine Ridge reservation... But what awaits them along the way? Will the trip help them find what they are both so sincerely looking for? French writer Marie Chartres wrote a touching and at the same time slightly ironic story about the journey of two teenagers along an American highway, about friendship, self-discovery, resentment for life and rebellion against the indifference of the world and despair. Having touched on the topic of the difficult situation of Indians on reservations, the writer leaves the reader the opportunity to set the accents and decide how to get out of what seems insurmountable.
