The works included in this collection belong to the pen of the famous master of the French detective Frederic Dar. His audience is wide - he has written more than 200 novels, which are read by everyone - from a shopkeeper to a Sorbonne professor. Frederic Dar was born in 1919 in Lyon. And already in 1949, his first novel appeared - “Pay His Bill”, the main character of which was the charming, courageous, successful in business and love, the San Antonio Police Commissioner and his friends - inspectors Alexandre-Benoit Berurier (Beru, aka Fat Man) and Pino (Pinyush or Caesar). Since then, from the pen of Frederic Dar, fascinating novels have appeared one after another, which were published under the pseudonym San Antonio. The writer created an entire series, which became, in fact, a new type of detective genre, in which parody of situations, brilliant humor and caustic sarcasm were the basis of criminal situations. In 1957, Frederic Dar was awarded the Grand Prize for Detective Literature; the circulation of his books reached hundreds of thousands of copies. Frederic Dar is a very versatile writer. In addition to the series about San Antonio (Sanantoniad, as he himself says), the writer created a number of detective stories in which the main thing is not the fact of investigating the crime itself, but the analysis of those hidden sides of the human psyche that led to the crime. This collection introduces the reader to two detective stories from the “San Antonio” series and the writer’s psychological novels, translated into Russian for the first time. We hope that getting to know Frederic Dar will give readers many pleasant moments.
