Having dealt with the Japanese combat patrol in the Bering Sea, Rozhdestvensky’s ships reached Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where, after making a short stop, they headed further to the immediate “theater of combat operations.” The icebreaker “Yamal”, which escorted Admiral Rozhdestvensky’s ships all the way to Avacha Bay, was supposed to already to return back - by the Arctic route to the Russian north, but...
