The monograph presents an analytical review of modern literature, reflecting the main scientific approaches to the study of relatives of patients with addictive disorders. The work describes the characteristics of the personal and family functioning of various categories of relatives of patients suffering from heroin addiction, in comparison with the indicators of their peers from a normative sample. The normative group included practically healthy individuals who did not have pronounced disorders of social adaptation. Among the family members of the normative group, there were no persons suffering from drug addiction, severe neuropsychiatric or severe chronic somatic diseases. The nature of family and personal dysfunction of the relatives of drug addicts is described, in particular, among the indicators of family functioning, special attention is paid to such as: violation of the family climate and level family organization, decreased indicators of family sociocultural orientation. When studying the characteristics of personal functioning, the research focus is on such characteristics as self-esteem, level of anxiety and aggression, personal sexuality and the ability to maintain internal and external boundaries of the “I”. The degree and specific characteristics reflecting family and personal dysfunction of all studied categories (fathers, mothers, wives, husbands, brothers and sisters) of the drug addict's relatives are described. The prevalence of personal and family dysfunction in each of the selected groups of relatives was determined. The monograph presents biopsychosocial determinants of the development of disorders in the emotional and cognitive spheres of relatives of persons with addictive pathology. The mechanisms for distributing the stress load caused by a loved one’s illness among family members depending on their role position are described. The results of a discriminant analysis of three categories of relatives differing in the nature of their involvement in interaction with a loved one suffering from drug addiction are presented. The features of psychological diagnosis and correction of relatives of drug addicts are described.
