The Austrian esotericist Rudolf Steiner, the founder of the anthroposophical movement, devoted his life to the search for a synthesis between science and spirit, as well as to exploring the possibilities of human contact with the “higher worlds.” According to Steiner, the same crystal clarity can reign in mysticism as in scientific research. Steiner's views on Christianity are far from generally accepted. He emphasizes not realism, but the symbolism of the gospel miracles, considering it comparable to the symbolism of secret pagan cults, and comes to the conclusion that the origins of the Christian spirit should be sought in the ancient mysteries.
