The action of the story “Two Soldiers from a Construction Battalion” takes place in the Soviet Army in 1976 - at the very height of the era of stagnation. The bestial attitude towards the Soviet soldier inherent in the educational system itself blossoms in full bloom in the barracks, but it is opposed by something spiritual inherent in one of the soldiers: weak physically, but very strong morally. Bullying and humiliation cannot turn this person into a degraded creature, but on the contrary, they temper him morally, make him stronger. The story “Two Soldiers from a Construction Battalion” by the talented modern writer Vladimir Lidsky received the prize of the Republican literary competition “Archa” in 2013 and was shortlisted -list of the international literary competition “Open Central Asia Book Forum and Literature Festival 2012”. The events of almost forty years ago, described in the book, are not difficult to project onto our modern times. Unfortunately, little has changed in Russia since deep Soviet times.
