The work of St. Theophan the Recluse, “The Path to Salvation,” the most famous of his many creations, was written by the Bishop based on lectures on moral theology that he gave at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. In this book, the saint revealed the meaning of Christianity, the meaning of the sacrament of Baptism for an adult and an infant, described the steps on the path of perfection in God and the nature of the struggle against external and internal evil. Considering the problems of Christian life from a practical perspective, Saint Theophan proceeded from personal prayer and ascetic experience and answered the spiritual questions of everyone who has embarked on the path of salvation.
