Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936) is a classic of English literature, laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907, who owes his fame primarily to the romance that pervades his poetry collections. The second volume of the collected works includes: the novel “Brave Seafarers” (1897), one of the few works of the writer based on American material: the story of the rebirth of the son of an American millionaire after communicating with simple sea workers; the largely autobiographical novel “The Light Has Gone Out” (1890), dedicated to the life of a talented war artist; as well as the story "The Story of Badalia Herodsfoot". The writer's creative style is distinguished by rigid precision of prose, laconicism, and brilliant style.
