Born for social life, the aristocrat Aurora Dupin broke all the rules by which her contemporaries lived and became famous George Sand. She wrote her first novels to provide herself with an independent income in Paris, where she fled from her husband. The heroines of her works are not yet able to break free from the captivity of prejudice, but in their souls love conquers fear and humility: the aristocrat Valentina (“Valentina”) gives her heart to a simple young man in the hope that he will be able to keep it, and the kind and proud Juliette (“ Leone Leoni") believes that her all-conquering love will help free her lover from the captivity of dark passions.
