The Borghese Gallery is a museum in Rome, located in Borghese Park and occupies part of the villa of the same name, which once belonged to the powerful Borghese family. On the first floor of the museum there is an exhibition of sculpture, on the second there is an art gallery. It houses works by such great Italian artists of the 16th–17th centuries as da Vinci, Veronese, Correggio Raphael, Titian, Reni, Rubens, as well as the largest collection of paintings by Caravaggio. There are six of his paintings here, while other museums only own one work. Some of Caravaggio's works decorate the walls of Italian churches. The gallery is grateful for its creation to Cardinal Scipione Borghese. He once accumulated a huge fortune and began to build this very Villa Borghese. He also began collecting works not only by former artists, but also by current masters. This man did not just collect works, but was a true fan of art. So, he once ordered the arrest of the artist Giuseppe Cesari, who could not pay off his debt, and Scipione took his works into his collection (more than a hundred works). However, after the death of the cardinal, the order was given to rebuild the villa, which was done, however, his collection was preserved. Thus, by order of Prince Marcantonio, sculptures were located on the first floor, and the second is reserved for an art gallery. The museum contains works by many masters, including Bernini. The collection contains several sculptures by Bernini, four of which were commissioned by Scipione. For tourists and fans of Bernini, this is a real find, because no museum contains such a large collection of early works by Bernini.
