The publication includes a complete collection of fairy tales by Marie-Catherine d'Aunois (1651-1705), one of the most famous storytellers of the “gallant age”, surprisingly little known to modern Russian readers. Meanwhile, her name and significance for the French literary fairy tale are quite comparable with the significance of her great contemporary and generally recognized “father” of this genre, Charles Perrault - his name is known to everyone. Sometimes the motives and plots of two storytellers intersect, complementing each other. Moreover, it was Marie-Catherine d’Aunoy who coined the term “fairy tales,” which, since the publication of the collection of her fairy tales of the same name, began to be actively used throughout Europe to denote this genre. The publication is supplied with detailed comments, biographical data, a table of French literary fairy tales from 1690 to 1705 and a decoding of fairy tale types according to the Aarne-Thompson index, a bibliographic index and an index of illustrations. The publication is richly illustrated with the rarest illustrations (black and white and color) from the lifetime and later editions of Madame's fairy tales d'Aunois, and with visual materials that extremely broadly recreate her era.
