In the May 2007 issue of DN, a short memoir by Yuri Oklyansky was published about the famous partisan general and author of the once-acclaimed book “People with a Clear Conscience,” Pyotr Petrovich Vershigor. Vershigor called the partisans with whom he shared difficult, risky campaigns “people with a clear conscience.” After some time, the author received a letter from a reader he did not know, whose husband, as it turned out, had a direct connection to the hero of the story and what is told in it. And a new plot began to unfold... It would seem that he was a famous partisan commander, a war hero, a general, and also a famous writer. All data to rest on your laurels. No matter how it is! Feats are punishable - for many years of peace, Pyotr Petrovich Vershigora had to fight for his good name and for the good names of his brothers in arms. How this happened can be found in the memoir essay by Yuri Oklyansky, “The General in Disguise.” The electronic version also includes the second part, “The Armless Guide,” published in 2010 in the same magazine.
