From someone else's to yours and back. Notes from a translator for the English police

The author of the book has been helping immigrants from Eastern Europe find a common language with the British police for many years. This is a difficult task - because we are not just talking about translations from Russian, Polish, Ukrainian or Serbo-Croatian. Both sides had to explain the entire grammar of someone else’s life. “For those who are planning to leave, read it as instructions, for those who are staying, read it for entertainment, and whatnot!” (Patricia Rogowska, London). Svetlana Savrasova submitted the Russian translation of her book, written in Polish, to the publishing house between two courses of chemotherapy. And she died on the day the book was sent to the printing house. Happy memory.
