The book, for the first time in Russian, presents a complete literary translation of the “Poem of Solitudes” (“Soledades”) by the great Spanish baroque poet Luis de Gongora y Argote (1561-1627) in a masterly translation by Pavel Grushko. The work of Gongora (name Gongoraism became a kind of synonym for Baroque literature) deeply influenced the literary process and turned out to be extremely important for the development of the Spanish language. Everything written by the poet (not a single book was published during his lifetime; poems were copied by hand and published only in anthologies) entered the classical canon of Spanish literature. The celebration of the 300th anniversary of Góngora's death became an act of unity among famous artists and poets, led by Federico García Lorca; the group was called the “generation of 1927.” The publication also includes other works by Gongora, as well as articles, glossaries and notes on the texts prepared by the translator - they will help the reader in perceiving the unique dark style of Gongora’s poems.
