In 1881, the French scientist Henri Poincaré wrote: “Mathematics is just the history of groups.” Today we can confidently assert that this statement is true in relation to various areas of knowledge: for example, group theory describes quartz crystals, hydrogen atoms, harmony in music, data protection systems that ensure the security of banking transactions, and much more. Groups are found everywhere, not only in mathematics, but also in nature. From this book, the reader will learn about the history of collaboration (presented in the form of a dialogue) of two famous scientists - mathematician Andre Weil and anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss. Their research was united by group theory.
