Whatever book by Slavoj Žižek the reader chooses, no matter what the reader himself is, we can say with almost certainty that he will not remain indifferent. It is the indelibleness of the choice that forms the essence of the intellectual aftertaste that remains with the person who once picks up Žižek’s book. The passion with which Žižek proposes to examine a variety of topics in his book (be it Schumann, cyberspace or the consequences of Stalinism) cannot be explained by a simple mania for putting meaning into any cultural phenomenon. It is important not so much to understand the subject from any point of view, but to find a fulcrum that will allow you to push off from this subject and take a new step. Do not dwell on what you have read, but make something out of what you have read - this is, in fact, the slogan of this book, and perhaps even the act of reading itself. And how many such movements the reader will have depends solely on himself, on his courage to read. In general, the book (despite the fact that 15 years have passed since its publication) is key for the Slovenian philosopher, which is confirmed not only by the fact that it contains for the first time the well-known moves that Zizek will later repeat with such ease and obsession, but also because after so much time the book is republished and reread. Publishing this book in Russian is a kind of challenge to the reader: to find not so much the time as the courage to read this book.
