This book is a collection of selected letters received by Ilya Ehrenburg in the years 1916–1967. Among them there are very few pre-war ones - Ehrenburg burned them in Paris in 1940 (only draft versions of several letters from Bryusov, Voloshin and Tsvetaeva have survived). But Ehrenburg’s archive since 1940 was very rich. Among the addressees of the writer are outstanding figures of world culture of the 20th century, major public and political figures: Bryusov, Akhmatova, N.Ya. Mandelstam, B. Pasternak, Tvardovsky, K. Simonov, Brodsky, V. Grossman, Paustovsky, Schwartz, Kaverin, Kazakevich, V. Nekrasov, Yu. Dombrovsky, V. Shalamov, A. Efron, Shklovsky, Jacobson, Eikhenbaum, Likhachev, Etkind, Vyach. Sun. Ivanov, Y. Lotman, F. Vigdorova, Meyerhold, Tairov, Koonen, F. Ranevskaya, Eisenstein, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Bukharin, Kollontai, Rokossovsky, Picasso, Chagall, Sarian, Le Corbusier, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Sartre, J.- R. Blok, Aragon, Cocteau, Malraux, Vercors, Simenon, Moravia, Feuchtwanger, Amadou, Neruda and many others. The book also includes selected letters from relatives, beloved women, fragments of military and parliamentary mail. The last section of the book consists of letters of sympathy addressed to Ehrenburg's wife and daughter after his death.
