Capital transfers represent the largest mega-engineering projects in human history, which also have a profound impact on the political life of states. Although various capital relocation projects are currently being considered in more than 30 countries, the phenomenon remains poorly and systematically understood. The book deals with models of such transfers, patterns of localization of capitals, historical contexts, motivations and forms of decision-making, as well as methodological approaches to this issue. To assess the efficiency of the capital city, the author turns to the prospects of spatial economics, the comparative study of federalism and the semiotics of urban spaces, the analysis of their iconography, ideology and symbolism.
