America, 1960s, small industrial town. 14-year-old Rusty James is fascinated by the “romance” of street gangs and participates in bloody showdowns, looking up to his older brother, Motorcycle Man, the former “king” of the city. But the Motorcyclist, having returned from a trip to California, does not distinguish colors, lives in silence and does not want to lead people. And in the city, drug trafficking is gaining momentum and the days of gangs are leaving. The brothers are faced with a new reality where there are no “kings” and everyone chooses their own path. This is a story about times that have not come, about youth without youth. About freedom for which we had to pay too dearly. And about the fact that everyone has their own side of the river. Susan Eloise Hinton is the author of the best-selling book “The Outcasts,” a living classic of literature and one of the first who spoke openly about the problems of youth. In 1983, Francis Ford Coppola’s film of the same name was released, in which Mickey starred Rourke, Matt Dillon, Nicolas Cage, Tom Waits and Susan Hinton herself. The group Green Day has a song “Rusty James” dedicated to the main character of the book.
