The author of this book, Michael (Michael, Misha) Grünbaum, was born in 1930 in Prague. After the Nazis occupied Czechoslovakia in 1939, his father was arrested and executed in a Gestapo prison, and Misha himself in 1942, along with his mother and sister, was sent to a terrible place - the Terezin ghetto and stayed there until the end of the war. Michael surprisingly clearly recalls his experiences, fears, hopes - how he felt all this then, at the age of 12–14. The narrative is not just “based on real events” - these are real events. The book appeared in 2015 and was immediately shortlisted for the Jewish Book Award. She has also won a Parents' Choice Award in the USA and received a Silver Medal from the Eureka Literary Award! - non-fiction books for children. An ideal pairing for the book “Island on Bird Street” by Uri Orlev.
