They fled the country from the first days of Soviet power. Many succeeded, but most did not. The fates of the fugitives are different, and so are their motives. Some could not put up with lies and injustice, others could not cope with the dream of seeing the world, although television gave them such an opportunity. This was also considered a crime. Today you can safely plan your vacation route around the world without thinking about any prohibitions. But the way out from behind the barbed wire was paved by those who at one time broke the border locks.
