The book was written by the author from the words of a world-class swindler, shortly before his death, who became a legend of the underworld. The swindler knew about his imminent death and for this reason decided to tell the author about all his adventures in every detail, with an explanation of all the tricks and ways of deceiving all segments of the population. His stories lasted more than one day and resembled a confession before a priest. Most likely, this confession was an attempt to harm his colleagues and the entire criminal underworld, from whom he was preparing to die. But the author, being a law-abiding citizen, did not understand any slang expressions, did not keep up with the guest’s train of thought and did not share his emotions on one point or another, and therefore decided to turn on the tape recorder to “record.” Three months after his “confession,” the fraudster was killed three shots to the back of the head at the entrance of his own house. The killers were not found, although a book published a little later contains both the answer and the motive for the murder.
