The illusion of choice

(including for Apple and Android)
Every day we make choices. Who to love and where to work, who to vote for and what to drive, how to relax and what to buy. In states that respect freedom, citizens are free to choose in all areas of life - and a lot of blood and ink has been spilled to defend the right of people to freedom of choice. But any choice requires time, which we always lack. As a result, we don’t try to figure out what would be better, but simply settle on the available option. We choose not to choose. Without any objections, we sign the employment contract and agree to the bank’s loan terms. Whether we notice it or not, we are faced with situations of lack of choice everywhere. But is it really as scary as it seems? Not at all. If we had to make a choice in all the areas that are important to us at once, we would not be able to cope with it, and it is precisely the refusal of choice that often makes our life more comfortable. Discussing the problems of choice, Cass Sunstein helps us figure out when we should fight for freedom of choice, and when choice only hinders us.
