This is the second part (chapters IX–XXVII) of a complete translation of the treatise written by the great Tibetan philosopher, yogi and Buddhist reformer Zhe Tsongkhapa (1357–1419). The treatise is a detailed study of the philosophical poem Mulamadhyamakakarika (Root Verses on the Middleness), the most important original source of Madhyamaka, written by Nagarjuna, whose personality is unparalleled in its greatness and contribution to the intellectual history of mankind. “Ocean of Arguments” is based on an extensive base of sutras and shastras and, thanks to the hermeneutic methodology of Prasangika, brings clarity to the understanding of the deep philosophical content of the Buddha’s Teachings and transcendental middle philosophy. Tsongkhapa gives an explication of the Madhyamaka, which ties together the meaning of emptiness and dependent arising as two aspects of reality and explains that it is this view, expounded in the Prajnaparamitic sutras and explained in the Nagarjuna shastras, that is the perfect basis of the Buddhist path to liberation and enlightenment.
