Hofmannsthal is an almost forgotten name for the Russian ear and eye. But at the beginning of the century it was not so - then it flashed on poster stands and on book shelves; Komissarzhevskaya herself staged his plays, and they went through more than thirty separate editions in Russian. The name of Hofmannsthal was among the stable symbols of the cultural life of those years full of expectations.
