In 1954-1960, Georgy Mokeevich Markov wrote a continuation of the story of the family of Siberian peasants, the Strogovs - the novel “The Salt of the Earth” (books 1-2), where he traced in detail the fate of Matvey’s children and grandchildren, who had already changed their social status, became scientists, employees, party workers - not so much “sowers” as transformers of post-war Siberia. Quite in keeping with the spirit of the times, the novel also features the image of a young rebel with the character of a “sixties man”—graduate student Alexei Krayukhin.

The novel was successfully filmed and deservedly won audience sympathy.
