This book includes nine lectures on natural theology, which astrophysicist Carl Sagan gave in 1985 at the University of Glasgow, in Scotland, and which were edited and published after the death of the scientist. Considering the picture of the world accepted within the framework of Judeo-Christian Muslim traditions, evidence for the existence of God, and ideas about religious experience, Sagan calls for “informed worship.” He considers religious evidence for the existence of God, pays a lot of attention to questions of the origin of life, the existence of intelligent life beyond the solar system and the threat of self-destruction of humanity. Along the way, he talks about how man’s understanding of the world around him was formed and changed, and offers listeners the idea that science is not a counter-divine tool, but, on the contrary, allows us to better understand what is happening around us. The lectures are supplemented with selected questions from the audience and answers from Carl Sagan , sometimes turning into fascinating discussions.
