Проте, як і в житті, шлях до влади не є простим: автор показує, як Давид, ставши царем, стикається з моральними дилемами, які ставлять під сумнів його праведність. Конфлікт між особистими бажаннями та обов'язком перед народом, а також наслідки його вчинків, створюють напружену атмосферу, що тримає в напрузі до останньої сторінки.
