At the end of July and in August 1969, eight very mysterious murders occurred. They were committed with brutal cruelty, only wild animals do not use knives and pistols, and after the murder they do not leave messages unevenly written in the blood of the victims. Among those killed were pregnant Sharon Tate-Polanski and her friends. A short time later, the police arrested several people who found themselves connected by close ties to the “family” led by Charles Manson. All of them were sentenced to death, which was later commuted to life imprisonment. The circumstances of the incident were blown up by the media into a huge scandal, which in many ways made Manson a world-famous cult figure: if “a fruit is an apple,” then “a brutal killer is Manson.” Nuel Emmons met Charles Manson long before these events, having ended up in prison for car theft, but their initial acquaintance was short-lived. The second time their paths crossed was in 1960, when Emmons again found himself in a prison cell. After these ups and downs, Emmons began to engage in photojournalism and collaborate with several American and European magazines. In 1979, he contacted Manson, who was serving a life sentence, and began interviewing him. Emmons' lengthy conversations with Charles Manson became this book.
