Nancy J. Jones teaches at the University of North Carolina in Washington, where she received a PhD for her research on the work of Vladimir Nabokov; in June 1997, her work dedicated to the novel “Lolita” was published in the “Bulletin of Biography”. Her short stories have been published in various literary magazines. “Molly” is Jones’s first novel, unanimously recognized by critics as one of the most brilliant literary debuts of the late twentieth century. The author managed to look at “Lolita” from a new, unexpected angle, and although both of these novels are very close in plot (even the names of the characters are deliberately similar), these are two completely different works”, two different worldviews.

At the center of the story the fates of two friends - one of them, Molly, almost completely follows the path of Lolita, and the other learns about this only after her death, from diaries and letters. Thus, we see Molly's story partly in her own retelling, and partly through the eyes of a friend, whose life developed quietly and calmly, perhaps even too calmly...
